Travel story: Rome 2004: Day Ten

Thursday morning already? I’m stuffing the last of my things into my suitcase while she showers, and get a call from reception to let me know that the taxi is here early, and the driver is not keen on waiting. No breakfast for me then. I scurry out as soon as she’s done in the bathroom, and settle the breakfast bill for the week. She gives me her copy of The Magic Mountain as a parting gift. So that’s why she was so intent on finishing it. I’m touched.
