Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is the home of Madame Pele, goddess of volcanoes. She resides in the heart of the Kilauea Volcano which steams at it's sunken center (called the caldera) and spews molten lava from its southeast rift. This lava flow has been active since 1983 and is the longest continuous eruption in recorded history.
