Travel story: Near Na Pali October 3, 2002

Unlike most of the Hawaiian islands, Kauai does not have a road that entirely rings the island. Highway construction was stopped by the impassable Alakai Swap on the West Shore and by the towering Na Pali cliffs of the North. While roads can't be built through Na Pali, the gorgeous coast is ringed with hiking trails.



The north end of the highway stops at Kee Beach. To the left of the beach is the 1,280-foot cliff nicknamed Bali Hai that marks the start of the Na Pali... More
