Puri & Konark, Monday, February 11

In the morning I hired a taxi (800 Rupees/ $17.00) for a day trip to Puri. It is said to be one of the four holiest places in India. I was picked up at the hotel entrance in a white Ambassador, the standard Indian taxi. I said hello to the driver and got in.

At the bottom of the hotel driveway the taxi stopped and the driver got out without saying a word. Another driver immediately got in and we took off.... More
