After an incredible morning enjoying a scenic flight to Milford Sound and a cruise through the sound, we once again got settled into our little plane for a scenic flight over Mt. Cook, Fox Glacier and Franz Josef (the township and the glacier). What a treat... and sooo nice to avoid a 8 hour bus trip!! I am sure the trip is beautiful, but I (Elizabeth and guest writer on this amazing blog by Tanya) thoroughly enjoyed the scenery from the air (and avoided motion-sickness). You can see that the scenery was wonderful, one of the other bonuses was that we could see the fault line that seperates the Australian plate from the Asia plate-- pretty amazing.

Headphones, seatbelt, I'm ready? Besides noise control, the headphones enabled the pilot to tell us where we were, what we were seeing and also we got to listen in on the tower control "talk."

This is where we are. Our pilot pulled out the map to show us where we were and where we were going. I think Tanya was a little concerned whether or not he was watching where he was going! The mountains were getting closer and closer...

Another mountain. I know more mountains, but isn't it a pretty picture?

Another safe landing. After a very scenic and safe flight we landed safely at the busy airport of Franz Josef (there was one other plane).

More mountains, more snow.

Franz Josef. From left to right notice: Mt. Tasman, Mt.Cook. You can then see the glacier and the river valley. The Franz Josef township is to the left of the picture.
