Celebrating Toby's 24th Birthday in style in Nairobi. Spending a few days talking to students of the Moshi International School. Being offered a nights accomodation at a very posh hotel on the way to Kenyan border. Sleeping in a variety of places including a restaurant, mosque and a service station. Paul and Owy's lucky escape from thieves. Relaxing on the beaches of Tiwi before making our way down to Dar Es Salaam.

of the team had indulged themselves in a two day feast of African game meat, Hartebeest, that was nothing short of a carnivore heaven. Even the herbivores had a bit to try, but the blood oosing out of barely cooked steak was a little too much for them. As energetic as as a three-toed sloth, due to the previous night of crazy dancing with some of the schoolteachers and the local booty-shakers, we rolled out of Moshi on route to Mombassa.. We were heading to the Kenyan border when Gino hung his head out of a minibus and made an offer too good to refuse, complimentary bed and breakfast at his hotel, the Capricorn Hotel on the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro. However, we didn't bargain on the 15km of very steep road through very dark dodgy villages with very dodgy drunk people to get to it. Once there, we made the most of the luxury and sat around in soft leather couches deep in philosophical debate about Africa, life and religion. The rolling race back down the hill the next morning was called off after everyone's arms started to ache from holding an aerodynamic position for far too long. The next night found us sleeping on the floor of a 'restaurant' in the middle of the Tsavo National Park (Kenya). We had arrived in Maktau in the dark due to a very lengthy lunchtime debate, I had nearly ran into the legs of a giraffe standing in the middle of the road, to find there was no camping and only one room in the 'hotel/ brothel'. A severe hatred of mosquito in ear noises prompted Toby to start hanging the four mossie nets above the concrete floor of the restaurant. Requiring nearly 100m of string, three assistants and about 1 hour of labour, Toby produced 4 mossie nets and a spider web of string ensuring none of us had an easy escape route for midnight toilet missions.
After scoffing a few chapattis with sugar and lemon for breakfast (pretending they were pancakes) we headed off towards Mombassa. We made 130km before stopping in a town strangely named ...
