In 1932 in the basin of the Kolyma river, a kind of russian Klondike, in the province of Magadan in north-oriental Siberia, it was constitutes under the control of the political police the awful Dalstroj, a trust for the gold extraction, silver, uranium and other metals.
On the inhospitable and desolate territory of 2,6 million km2, rich in immense seams of gold, was born hundreds of gulag, where in 20 years of the Stalinian terror has been sent different million of political prisoners. They were often more terrible than the Nazi concentration camps. The atrocity without equal in the lagers it was described from Solzenizin, Shalamov, Ginzburg, Sacharov and other writers. After less than 10 years the immense empire of ice of Kolyma furnished one third of the world production of gold. Every kilo, has been calculated, it claimed a human life. It was hypothesized over the 2 million. The deported ones suffered and they died for the terrible cold, hungry rations of provisions, illnesses, heavy job.
The time, extreme climate, hostile and wild nature have almost entirely cancelled the traces of the horrors of Gulag Archipelago, symbol of the inhuman forced jobs.
Today the tests of the cruel violence of the man exist still in the lager abandoned of Dniepropietrovski, in the proximities of Miakita and Butigichak, next to Ust Umchuk.
The photos are touching testimony of the damned place and forgotten by God.
