It has been only 2 months since we visited Scotland, but we are on our way again. Teije will start with a new job after this holiday, so we fear that we won't have very much time for more trips this year.
Quietly we leave home at half ast eleven and after 5 hours of highways we sit in Odense in the sun, enjoying a cup of coffee.
According to our travel guides every Dane has been at least once in his life on this spot: the street and house where the famous fairy-tale writer Hans Christian Andersen (born 1805) was born. The alley itself has very nice small houses (picture), but the actual house has been rebuild into an ugly building. Or they must be busy renovating. It is not worth a picture!
We still have plenty of time left and use it to drive around the island Funen (Odense being the capital of it) and around we decide it is time to look for our KRO-hotel, a sort of motel, in Øksendrup.
Well rested, we leave for a not too long trip to Sweden. Soon we pass the first toll bridge, from the island of Funen to the island Sjælland (€32,92). Naturally, we can't pass Copenhagen witout visiting it, but we are not very impressed by it. Maybe because it is a quiet sunday morning.
At the museum there is a model of the city as it looked around 1600 AD. After having walked around for an hour, we feel we have seen enough here and continue our way to Sweden. This time we have to cross the bridge which links Sweden (and thereby Norway and Finland as well) to the European continent. This bridge has been finished in 2000, but the first proposals for this bridge date back to 1886!
The toll (€ 30,18) is worth it. We rather drive for a few hours and enjoy the scenery than spending a night on a ferry.
Quite early we arrive in Sweden. We put away the Danish crowns and bring out the Swedish crowns.
Later you can read further on the Sweden-page. A link will be made
