Mr Khalid tells me to get out of the bus right opposite the central clock in Panadura, "take care! You'll be further on up the road before you've noticed it!" and right he was. I was looking for the clock and was thinking "Is this what he meant?" and it was, I walked the kilometer back to the bus station. I asked and was told to wait for more than one and a half hours. Accepting the facts I was surprised when someone walked up to me and told me about the private bus station, 500 meters down south. I walked to that bus station and found a bus that left in 10 minutes, more expensive but with aircon and a seat for your own.
The landscape changed suddenly, hills, lots of trees, and it seemed that the temperature was falling too. In Ratnapura the bus dropped me right in front of the central clock, this time the clock became an orientation point for me. Finding accommodation wasn't that easy, I saw some hotels from the inside, had been on a tuk-tuk ride to a cheap hotel up the mountains, the view was perfect but I didn't want to walk up and down the hill every time I wanted to go to town. So I ended up in my most expensive hotel in Sri Lanka. I was the only guest, but I found out that that's nothing special, I had been the only guest a couple of times this holiday. It was strange though, a huge restaurant with over forty tables and no other guests. While walking down the streets some people stared at me, they didn't move a foot, turned around and stared at me walking further.. It irritated me, I'm a normal human being and not a monkey in a Zoo, then a cow walked up to me on the sideway, it looked at me, as I passed it I looked back and yes, even the cow turned his head and looked at me. Hmmm ...... did I shave myself this morning? Yes!!, I must have looked like someone coming from Mars, I don't have an explanation for this.
Time to leave, this time with no twisted feelings, there wasn't a direct connection
