Finding a bus was an adventure, I find out that reading Singhalese is not one of my strongest points, I ask someone for the right bus, he points me the right direction and I step in. I sit right behind the driver, a loudspeaker right above me hits my ears with loud music, the first five kilometer these sitar sounds sound new to me. Great!!! That night I still can hear those sounds when I lay in bed. It's amazing how many people they put in one bus, and all of them voluntary as I may assume!
The road to Hikkaduwa and Galle is one long road, not a single turn left or turn right all the way. The usual touts await me when I leave the bus in Hikkaduwa, I find my hotel on my own after having visited one with a tout before. This I have to learn, never visit a hotel with someone who guides you to the hotel, you'll pay more for the room than if you had come alone, and guess who will get the price-difference?
This town is supposed to be the most popular of the beach centers, it's mainly one long road strip, houses, cafes, restaurants at each side of the road. I put some effort in it finding out why people like this town that much. I had a cool good beer at the beach, not bad! I walked the beaches for some time, quit ok! But to say it's a very special town? and the best of all there is? I get scared of the rest I have to discover. A cold changes my scuba diving plans, I want to give it a try but the friendly owner of "Poseidon" advised me to come back later. "If we only wanted the money, you could go diving right now!" he said, they have a heart for the PADI principles.
Finding the bus for Galle is really easy, because every bus going to the south has to pass Galle. Again I take a public bus, I still haven't forgotten the sitar sounds but I want to give it another try. This time a man makes life music in the bus, he sings a song and plays a kind of rhythm instrument, nice and not that loud! He
