well, while i'm sure prague may cause another upset in a week, for the moment, edinburgh reigns as the most beautiful city i've ever been to. i don't know why i love it so much but i do. i really, really love edinburgh castle. i found myself circling it today, almost paying the 20 dollars to go in but decided i better give my finances another few days to see if i can manage it. but it's just so... defensable! i have no idea why this delights me...

well, while i'm sure prague may cause another upset in a week, for the moment, edinburgh reigns as the most beautiful city i've ever been to. i don't know why i love it so much but i do. i really, really love edinburgh castle. i found myself circling it today, almost paying the 20 dollars to go in but decided i better give my finances another few days to see if i can manage it. but it's just so... defensable! i have no idea why this delights me... but three-quarters of it is surrounded by a sheer rock face. it's up on a rocky outcropping overlooking all of the city. if someone were to have tried to storm it, they could have only come from one side and would have been very easily detectable. it just makes me very proud to be a scot. i know, i know - none of you are as interested in medieval warface as i am but durn it... i am. the fact is that it's also just a beautiful castle, out there on the rock face, surrounded by the green scottish hills.

i've spent most of my time here just wandering, pouring through museums, so there's not a lot to write about that would interest you-all. though i've already made a very good friend, i think, should i come back. her name's simone and she's here from australia to live and work. we went out to this quirky little pub that had crayons and paper provided with a german friend of simone's and just had a long night of good conversation (the german lady left early - had to work the next day) and weird little drawings. there was an experimental electronica band on in the background that got progressively odder but were fun all the same.

i also have a new destination - ghana. i met a guy named kofi on my last night in dublin who was there for school and he gave me the name and address of this sort of local guru, this really well loved doctor who knows everything about the culture and customs of the area and loves to take people under his wing. so i think i will try to find this man and learn from him sometime in the future. perhaps it's a good fullbright destination.

oh and the lack of photos is due to the fact my
mum's digital camera, which i was borrowing, was stolen in dublin. i have such a horrible run of luck with cameras. it was snatched right out of my backpack. grrr. i may get a roll of film developed when i get a really solid roll of film so that i can have something posted before i get back. otherwise, you may just wait.
