it's my last night here and i'm sulking. there's still so much i would love to do. i only just got out in the highlands today and it was gorgeous... simone set off today on a week long tour through the highlands and the islands and i whimpered jealously. not to mention that i was sad to see her go. i've met a lot of people here but she remained my closest compatriot. five of us girls -- including barbie, oh goodness, i shall get to her in a moment -- went out on friday and danced until 3.
i really don't want to leave edinburgh...

it's my last night here and i'm sulking. there's still so much i would love to do. i only just got out in the highlands today and it was gorgeous... simone set off today on a week long tour through the highlands and the islands and i whimpered jealously. not to mention that i was sad to see her go. i've met a lot of people here but she remained my closest compatriot. five of us girls -- including barbie, oh goodness, i shall get to her in a moment -- went out on friday and danced until 3. the first club, which was called frankenstein and was all done up like a lab, was a lot of fun. they played a lot of 80's and generally dance music, nothing remotely resembling r&b or too pop, though, which was nice. we danced with a bunch of different groups around us, the last song included much dipping that involved me and a random scotsman nearly falling to the ground about five times. there was a group of drunken spaniards who attached themselves to us, i ended up having to save simone from one spaniard by kissing another of them. after that we
went to another club that was... ugh... not so bueno. a fish market. men were all over us, all the time. again, mostly spaniards. you can't even escape them outside of spain! but on the all, it was quite a good time. we were celebrating gwen, another australian girl, getting a job. she, simone, barbie (who's real name is kuai, "like the island"), and a german girl named dannie. we hung out with them a lot other nights, as well as another pair of girls from australia, and a guy from brooklyn (totally stereotypical ex-builder brooklynite in his appearance/manner who's in his mid-30's, but very liberal and sarcastic and funny, here studying architecture at the uni, which gives me hope). that was the only night we went out and got too crazy. other days involved early mornings so they were just drinking in the chillout room, playing cards and watching weird british shows, and talking.
