The following article is a description of a trip that included most of the Canadian Rockies and many towns and cities in Washington state, Alberta and British Columbia. Vancouver is highlighted in this article. Seventeen days would be an ideal time to see all the sites and attractions mentioned below. This trip is best if you go in the summer months, preferably during the time period of mid July to mid August plus or minus a week. The reason for this is mostly related to the good weather during that time of year.
This trip allows one to see some spectacular natural scenery and also incorporates some time in the big cities, i.e. Vancouver, Seattle, and Calgary. Some of the mountainous scenery in central Alberta and British Columbia is very impressive. I scheduled my lodging ahead of time for the early part of the trip. I left the middle and end of the trip open because by that time there are many variables on where you will be staying. There is just too much to see and some parks may take priority over others and I did not want to be locked in to a certain hotel in a particular town. I flew from San Francisco and then rented a car for the 2+ weeks.
Visitors to British Columbia and Alberta from the United States need to carry a birth or baptismal certificate, voter registration card, or a current US drivers license. In all of Canada there is a 7% Goods and Services Tax. If you save all your GST receipts you can submit them to a duty free shop and receive an instant rebate.
First, I will list an outline of the trip, including more detail about the cities, parks, attractions and other items of interest to the potential tourist, and then the cities of Vancouver and Victoria will be discussed.
