The famous opera singer, Marilyn Horne, has taught at this academy since 1995.

Plaza De La Guerra is where the first city council met in 1850 and was one of the Santa Barbara's original parks. It is located on De La Guerra Street between Anacapa and State Streets. Next to the Plaza is City Hall and also the white washed building that contains the offices of Santa Barbara News Press. This newspaper is the oldest daily newspaper in Southern California. In August a Fiesta Week is held and the Plaza is turned into a mercado (marketplace).
The Santa Barbara Arts and Crafts Show is where about 300 Santa Barbara County artists display their works. This is held on Sundays from 10am until sunset.
