Lake Tahoe, The Lake, is the jewel of the Sierra Nevada's. At 6,226 feet above sea level Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America. It is 12 miles wide, and 22 miles long. The Lake has a surface area of 191.6 square miles. The average depth of The Lake is 989 feet, while its deepest point is 1,645 feet. This is the third deepest lake in North America. Lake Tahoe contains about 40 trillion gallons of water. To put that number in perspective, that amount of water would cover the state of California in 14 inches of water.

A north shore ride that is probably the most popular Tahoe mountain biking trail is the Flume Trail, near Incline Village. This trail is named for the wooden flumes that used to carry water and logs to Virginia City in the 1870's.

The easiest Tahoe mountain biking trails are in Sugar Pine Point State Park on Tahoe's west shore. The Paige Meadows loop is an easy ride.

I enjoy going to South Lake Tahoe during the night for some late 1990's gambling. Recently Planet Hollywood opened and I have had the most luck there, playing the slot machines. The restaurant tends to be quite crowded but once you are seated you are surrounded by movie memorabilia. Check out Cindy Crawford's high school yearbook photo. Whenever I am in Tahoe I always frequent Harrah's Hotel and Casino but Harvey's, nearby, is of similar caliber. I have a soft spot for Harrah's as it is a family tradition to go to this Casino. For best access to Harrah's traveling on Lake Tahoe Blvd. (Hwy 50) going towards the Nevada state line, take a right on Lake Parkway and you will circle around to the parking lots in the back of Harrah's. By taking Lake Parkway you avoid some of the congestion that surrounds the state line scene. Of course some people may thrive on congestion and crowds, and then by all means continue straight on Lake Tahoe Blvd. to downtown State line, and then look for parking. There is lots of parking behind Harrah's, but usually its always full. However, there are constantly people leaving and I have been able to park very close to the entrance many times.
