BELGIUM, 2002 - Summertime... For most people the time for holidays with the kids, being lazy, enjoying the nice weather... If there is some nice weather. Because in Belgium summers are very predictable : there will be sun or there will be rain. This years summer will not break any records with regards to the number of sunny days, it has been raining quite a lot, there were even floods in parts of the country. But I am used to this kind of summer, and like all other people, when it is really summer for some days or weeks, I try to enjoy it the most.

Because in Belgium summers are very predictable : there will be sun or there will be rain. This years summer will not break any records with regards to the number of sunny days, it has been raining quite a lot, there were even floods in parts of the country. But I am used to this kind of summer, and like all other people, when it is really summer for some days or weeks, I try to enjoy it the most.

Going out with friends, walking, riding bicycle, ... but also barbecue and a fresh beer on the terasse of the café ! I particulary like the fact it only gets dark late (around 10 PM in mid summer) and the sunsets are often spectacular. And when it has been a really hot day (yes it happens...), walking outside in the rain can be a real delight too !

Most people who stay in Belgium for the summer holidays, either go to the Belgian coast, or to the Ardennes. After a period of rainy weather, it is very crowdy on the roads towards this destinations.

For me summertime is also the time of music festivals in open air. The last five years or so, the festival scene in Belgium really is booming. You can go somewhere every weekend if you want to. And I like to go there because the mixture of sun, happy people, nice music and a belgium beer... is hard to resist. And going to a festival is always a little adventure. Life is beautiful in summer !
