I just finished working here in Poland with the PEACE (People's Enthusiasm Acting for Cultural Education) project run by AIESEC SGH at the Warsaw School of Economics with support from the United Nations Development Programme. It was a 2 month internship in which I was promoting Canadian Culture (along with others from around the world promoting their cultures) as well as tolerance and cultural understanding to secondary school students in villages and towns throughout the country.

Biłgoraj (Pronounced Beewgoraiy) and Warszawa

First off I need to apoligize for not updating this as often as I probably should. Things are really busy at the schools - we are always being taken to meet different people and see different sights. I finally have a bit of time to relax so I will do my best to write about my experience last week in Biłgoraj and Warszawa.

First off we went to Biłgoraj to continue our teaching of tolerance and this time we were staying at a university residence and working with the Youth Cultural Centre where young people would go to do art, drama, singing, and folk dancing. Unfortunately, we arrived on Sunday and left on Thursday, so we did not have as much time as with the other schools and I thought that this was too bad because this was also a great town and I would have liked to stay longer. We were usually hanging out with students from the cultural centre during the day and the evenings so we really got to know them well and they are awesome people. They are also a tight group because they really enjoy dancing and singing together at the centre. The night we arrived we went to a pub and it was a crazy adventure. We entered the first place and this really drunk guy came over and started talking to us. He was really excited and swearing a lot (but the fun kind, not the mean kind) and was happy to see us - especially since we were really foreign. Later on we went to another pub and there was this other drunk guy who is known for starting fights in the town. He came over to Emmanuel (our Nigerian) and started saying that he loved him and he was great. Then he brought over shots 25ml (also referred to a "Ćwiartka") and they both drank one. Then, he came right back with another (50ml) called a "Pięćdziesiątka" and they drank that. Then he came over again with a 70ml shot -- at this point we realized that he was quite drunk and wanted to show off his drinking power ...
