My summer of 2003 was a very exciting one. I went to Jonquière, Quebec to learn French for 5 weeks, and with only a few days to prepare (including a party at my friend Paul's cottage in between) I was off to Accra, Ghana landing July 1 (Canada Day, and also Ghanaian Independance Day). After that, within 3 days I was back at Ottawa to complete my Economics degree, so it was a very action-packed summer.

and other small wildlife. At one point we saw an elephant walking around, and something spooked it so it trumpeted and started charging (not towards us) and scared away a bunch of animals. The ranger we were with prepared his rifle when this happened in case we would be in any danger. When we got back we hung out at the look out point near the hotel where the view of the park was amazing. We talked to some boys from the village that were hanging around the hotel (because they wanted to rent out their bikes I presume) and we rented their bikes for a few hours. It took just over 30 min to bike to the village and we took a tour. The village is home to the oldest mosque in Ghana (which is also one of the oldest in West Africa) being built in 1421. There was also the "Mystic Stone" which was this big stone right in the middle of this road that was cleared. They say that they tried to move it a number of times but every time they did, when they returned, the rock was back where it was in the first place. Eventually they just built the road around the rock because they couldn't get it to stay out of the way. We went around the village some more and saw the school and there were some kids playing an elastic game. You flick elastics against a wall and if your elastic lands on another one, you get to collect all the elastics that have been shot. It looked pretty fun. We got back to the hotel, had dinner, and went to sleep to be ready for the 5:30am bus leaving for Tamale in the morning.

Well wouldn't you know, the bus did not come (probably because of the headlight problem we experienced). We ended ...
