My summer of 2003 was a very exciting one. I went to Jonquière, Quebec to learn French for 5 weeks, and with only a few days to prepare (including a party at my friend Paul's cottage in between) I was off to Accra, Ghana landing July 1 (Canada Day, and also Ghanaian Independance Day). After that, within 3 days I was back at Ottawa to complete my Economics degree, so it was a very action-packed summer.

on a canopy tour (there is a setup of 7 bridges that go between the trees 40m above the ground. It was built by 2 Canadians and 2 Ghanaians. It was designed so that scientists could observe and study the trees, insects, animals and birds. Unfortunately, because we were in the afternoon, the monkeys weren't playing (if I was there in the morning or evening I would have seen them) There were so many different types of trees and butterflies around. The view was amazing.
Then, trying to get back to Cape Coast was an adventure because all of the Tro-Tros were full, so we walked to a village close by. These kids were walking with us and they had a little radio blasting Ghanaian tunes. They were singing and having a great time. Finally we got our Tro-Tro and got to Cape Coast, and then headed home. It was a great weekend.

Nature Reserve
I seem to be pretty settled in now. Most things seem normal and routine. I still love the convenience of people selling things everywhere (so if you ever need a snack, there is usually someone close by selling something). This weekend I made a little trip to Shai-Hills Nature Reserve. It is really cool because it is grasslands with some little mountains and magnificent views from them. I saw some baboons, birds, and insects of course. There are other animals like antelope which are in the reserve, but we weren't near any watering holes and a lot of times people make so much noise that they scare them away. It was still an awesome hike though. We also went into a bat cave and to the top of one of the little mountains. We had a guide with us and the views were something else. I'm a sucker for landscapes so I took a bunch of pictures. Some are posted on my website.
