My summer of 2003 was a very exciting one. I went to Jonquière, Quebec to learn French for 5 weeks, and with only a few days to prepare (including a party at my friend Paul's cottage in between) I was off to Accra, Ghana landing July 1 (Canada Day, and also Ghanaian Independance Day). After that, within 3 days I was back at Ottawa to complete my Economics degree, so it was a very action-packed summer.

Arrival
Well I've arrived in Accra (capital city of Ghana) and had an interesting first few days. The people here are really friendly and the market is an exciting new adventure for me. The weather is very warm, but I'm starting to get used to it. The food is really tasty but timing for when people eat is different, so I'm going to have to get used to that as well. Right now I am just setting up this WebLog (BLOG) so I will write more stuff later.

First few days
Alright. This is the first main posting to my mailing list/weblog that I am writing. My experience here for my first few days has been quite interesting. When I arrived at the airport, I was greeted by a wall of over a thousand people (or at least it seemed like that much), and right at the first place I looked was my CEED partner Victoria and AIESEC Ghana's Member (National) Committee. (CEED is the program that I am doing through AIESEC to work voluntarily here in Ghana) My first evening was pretty relaxed... I got myself settled in at the MC house cause that is were I have been staying until I move in with the trainees (the students which are on work internships here are staying at a few different houses). A few of us went to Big Boss (a restaurant/bar) for some food, and then came back and called it a night. Funny thing about the way to Big Boss is that there is another bar on the way that is always playing Celine Dion. That is how you know which road to turn onto.
The next few days included me going to a couple of the markets around town (which are very busy and just packed with people) to buy some stuff that I needed. Everything is bartered which is a skill I have yet to master. Later on a bunch of us went bar hopping and we started at this Irish Pub where I met a management trainee from Holland which is working there and a woman from Ukraine who has been in Ghana for 5 years.
