Monday, 19 April<br />The Caulder Highway takes you from Melbourne towards the town of Hopetoun in the northwest of Victoria. I decided to stay at the Hopetoun Hotel/Motel. The rooms are pretty basic but the meals are the good old country style which suits me down to the ground.

The Caulder Highway takes you from Melbourne towards the town of Hopetoun in the northwest of Victoria. I decided to stay at the Hopetoun Hotel/Motel. The rooms are pretty basic but the meals are the good old country style which suits me down to the ground.

After a short walk around town I found the Kindergarten I was to work in the next day. For the life of me I could not remember being there before but there wasn't another centre in town so it must have been the same one I had visited two years earlier.

On the outskirts of town I took a long walk around Lake Lascelles. It has been more then a couple of years since it has seen any water. This drought is evident in many places I visit.
After the four-hundred and thirty-five kilometer drive I turned in early and had no problems sleeping that night.

Tuesday, 20 April
Blue sky's with just a hint of clouds greeted me this morning. An hour after waking I was in the car driving the short distance to the centre.
My work sheet indicated an eight-thirty start and I was parked outside a deserted centre half an hour before that time. This always allows me time to set up the studio before the activity shots start. Had another look at the sign and confirmed I was indeed at the right location. Got a bit concerned when I noticed the centre was open on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Eight-fifteen the director turned up and apologized for being late. It didn't take long to set up and I was ready to start as the children began arriving.
There was only twenty children and I was finished by eleven. I left the centre and drove round to the post office and posted off six exposed spools of film to Melbourne.

After travelling twenty odd kilometers south down the Henty Highway I turned towards the east at Beulah. Followed this road through Birchip and onto Wycheproof where I joined the Boort-Wycheproof Road. Just outside Boort I stopped to ...
