Hi all. I am so sorry that it has taken me so long to get his up and running. I am actually writing this from Cairo and as I have a full day to myself today hopefully I will be able to bring you all up to speed.
I was at the airport for approx 20mins before I got bored and lonely. I blame this on my parents and their constant love and support! A few phone calls from friends were very much appreciated and I apologise to those whom I got teary with. I eventually pulled myself together though and snapped out of it.
Flying is so incredibly overrated! I was smack bam in the middle of a row of four (even worse considering I have a bladder the size of a pea) and was not terribly comfortable. The only consolation was the fine array of lotions I applied every hour thanks to Wendie. Oh, and the entertainment system, I watched several good movies - including Cinderella!! The flight was just over 15hrs and I would be surprised if I had more than 5 hrs sleep.
The flight landed at 5.30 local time and it was already 33 degrees celcius. Passport control was a shamozzle and then customs pulled me over. I didn't understand what the gentleman was trying to say and he got a little bit gruff. There was a lovely gentleman, Hari, waiting to take me to the hotel. Fortunately I was allowed into my room at 6.30am rather than the usual midday. The hotel was right in the middle of the city and perfect for my needs. My room was great with the biggest bed I have seen in my whole life.
I loved Dubai. It is a city full of such contrasts. All of the buildings are new but built in traditional style. it is such a deeply religious country bt tourism and the western world is so prominent. And of course you see Arabic women dressed head to toe in black, revealing only their eyes which are covered with the most decorative eye makeup I have ever seen. The men also how juxtapositions wearing head to toe dish dashes with Nikes and baseball hats.
