Wednesday afternoon we all went horseriding. Katie and I were the only ones who had ridden a horse before (although 2 or 3 times shouldn't count if you ask me) so we were given the horses which were less likely to follow orders and take off on a whim... We had a lot of fun. Katie is a big fan of McLeod's Daughters which I am familiar with so we spent the whole two hours pretending we were Claire and Tess from the show and talked about the paddocks that needed tending to, the animals that needed the vets attention etc etc. No one else knew what we were talking about but we thought we were hilarious.
Thank God for Lomotil and Lemonade...

It was not like going horseriding back home (where the horses at least look as though they have been fed) and you get a very comfy saddle and equipment. Whilst not riding bareback it was not far from it and we all got off with very sore butts and backs, especially Katie and I who galloped as much as we could. Back at the hotel we all had dinner by the pool which was very serene.
There were no english tv stations in Dahab so we generally stayed up chatting the night away. I woke up Thursday morning sich AGAIN. You all must think that I am a silly girl for not looking after herself properly but I promise I am being extra vigilant. I just can't quite seem to rid myself of it completely. Thursday was another day of lemonade only. I was so ravenous Thursday night that I needed something - anything! My tour leader who was supposed to go out with the rest of the group ended up staying back at the hotel with me and got me some toast for dinner. I don't know where or how he got it but he did.
Friday morning we all met for breakfast at 10am which gave us plenty of time to pack our bags and get some more sunshine before we had to meet again at midday to head back to Cairo. It was supposed to be a 7hr bus ride but due to severe delays at the Suez Canal checkpoints (which is amazing by the way - completely man made!!) and heavy traffic once back in Cairo it was 9.45 before we arrived back at our hotel. The hotel in Cairo was dank and dreary but having stayed there twice before (once in the beginning of the tour and then in the middle) it was familiar and it is amazing what one takes comfort in when overseas.
Friday night I had promised my tour leader that I would take him out to dinner as he had been so very kind to me - way above and beyond his duty. I asked him to pick the restaurant and he chose a lovely Swiss one on the bank of the Nile. Excellent choice! It was without a doubt the nicest meal I had had in the two weeks in Egypt and the first glass of red wine I had drank in over 2 weeks. We didn't get there until about 10.30 (yes this is the same Natalie who usually gets grumpy if dinner isn't on the table by 7pm) and left after midnight. After such a long afternoon on the bus I was not even close to tempted to go anywhere else afterwards.
P.S Am almost half way through Anna Karenina and am loving it. I think I was a Russian Aristocrat in a previous life!!
