With the addition of a new temporary travel companion (dad) things have changed a little - but certainly for the better!

Does it get any better than this...

too high again and I had to fall off the bike in order to disembark. I had a nasty run in with a brambles bush too and have thick scratches all up my legs. I think for certain that they will get infected, at least I hope so as that would be a great story!

Today became increasingly amusing however. After breakfast the 3 of us took a cable car up into the mountains through the vineyards. It was breathtaking. The sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Mel had got a ticket for the cable cars only but dad and I bought a ticket for a chair lift down adn then a boat back to out town. It was a 30 min walk from the chair lift to the cable car and even though dad was in pain with his back and I had my boots on and not my runners we decided to give it a go (being the finely tuned athletes that we are...) At the top of the mountain is a famous German monument built in the late 1800's commemorating the German defeat of the French. Including all of the monuments I saw when I was in Italy this was the most impressive monument I have ever seen. We said goodbye to Mel and started on our walk to wards the chair lift which was to take us down the other side of the moutnain. There were several different paths one could take and we took one that had a bunny rabbit on it. We assumed that meant that we had to watch out for rabbits. WRONG. The paths all had symbols associated with them to differentiate them and the bunny rabbit path was the longest. Our stroll in the forest turned into a hike and we came close to calling for a GPS system to be dropped into us by a chopper. My boots had broken and dad could hardly walk due to his back pain and we kept getting lost. We would think we were on the right path but woudl then come to a dead end. The worst thing was I couldn't get cranky with dad for his terrible sense of direction as I had no idea to get us out of the conundrum we found ourselves in either.

2 hrs later we found the chair lift down and it wa worth the effort. Coming down through thick dense forest it was so tranquil that we found ourselves whispering. At the bottom of the ride we had missed the boat so had to get a cab back to our town. Not without refuelling of course, after all of that excertion dad needed a Bitburger. LIke the incidents Mel and I had when I commented had I been by myself I would have become frustrated and cross. when I am with dad an things like that happen we just laugh at ourselves. If we were ever going to be lost whilst walking we picked an excellent spot to do it. He kept singing 'The Hills are Alive' until I told him that unfortunately that was set in Austria, not Germany.

Mel and I spent the afternoon updating our travel journals, eating cheese and drinking wine. It is 10pm Tuesday night and we have just returned from dinner. I can say with a sense of satisfaction that this journal is now up to date. We had another wonderful dinner filled with lots of laughter and funny stories. These past few days have been incredibly special and I already have so many priceless memories.
