On Thursday morning Mel and I made our way to the train station in Berlin. We were running a little short on time and had the funniest morning. On our way to the station our cab got a flat tyre. Mel and I however, did not know he had a flat tyre and when he stopped, pulled over and motioned for us to get out of the car we had no idea what was going on! We thought we must have said somehting offensive or done somehting wrong. He had to take us around to the flat tyre and show us before we realised why he had pulled over with a grave look on his face.

When we checked in we got information on a tour for the next day and booked it straight away as it picked us up from the hotel. We like easy.

As it was raining and miserable we didn't do much in the early evening. John has a friend in Prague, Ralph, whose details I had and I called him when we arrived in Prague. He was going out for the evening for drinks and invited me. This was very much appreciated and at about 9pm I set off to find the cocktail bar where he had told me he was. Mel wanted a quiet night so I set out alone. Like all of John's frinds I have met thus far, Ralph was friendly, welcoming and genuinely charming. He has lived here for eight years now so I was able to get city information that you can't get from a tour. The bar was fantastic - very stylish but not so trendy that I felt uncomfortable. I also had the priviledge of meeting another friend of Ralph's, John (so many John's even I get confused!) I was out until 2.30am and stopped in at 3 or 4 different bars. At one stage we met up with a group of English men who all work in property here after they had been to a work dinner. I don't know whether John would have given me Ralph's details had he known he would take me out with 12 other men with me being the only female... They were all lovely and I find it very interesting talking to people who work in countries other than those they consider home.

I tried not to be too noisy when I got back to the room but I don't think I was sucessful. I was a little tired when I woke up on Friday morning and had probably looked and smelt a little better. All throughout Europe there are smokers everywhere but being in a small confined space, such as a bar, it really is quite horrendous. I definitely had to wash my hair which was perturbing as I am trying to ration my shampoo and conditioner. I also had to get my clothes laundered.

Mel and I were picked up for our tour at 10.15 - 25 minutes late. ...
