On Thursday morning Mel and I made our way to the train station in Berlin. We were running a little short on time and had the funniest morning. On our way to the station our cab got a flat tyre. Mel and I however, did not know he had a flat tyre and when he stopped, pulled over and motioned for us to get out of the car we had no idea what was going on! We thought we must have said somehting offensive or done somehting wrong. He had to take us around to the flat tyre and show us before we realised why he had pulled over with a grave look on his face.
Berlin to Prague

I was able to get the coffees. This made us very late for the train which was luckily 10 mins late.
The 5 hour train ride went smoothly. The scenery changes were amazing. At one stage we were amongst a dense forest full of Magic Faraway type trees and I imagined Silky and Moonface living in one of them. It then changed to more open fields scattered with babbling brooks and creeks. I could imagine Ratty and Mole (from the Wind in The Willows) out boating (for there is nothing better than boating) and Toad motoring along the narrow gravel roads with his tailored pinstripe vest on. As we came closer to Prague the scenery changed yet again and we traveled alongside huge rocky mountains. They reminded me of the mountains in The Lord of The Rings that Frodo and the fellowship hike over to get to Helm"s Deep. Forgive me for regressing into fantasy and fairytails but when surrounded by such spectacular scenery one can not help it!
Although Mel and I had been assured that we did not need Visas to get into Prage we were still concerned about border security. Sure enough when we crossed over the guards came down the corridoor of the train. Mine and Mel's eyes met and we could both see the trepidation in each others face. The situation wasn't helped by the fact that the guards looked like the Nazis who come to take Captain Von Trapp away at the end of the Sound Of Music (so much so that Mel and I named one fo them Ralph). I think they smelt our fear as they spent an unusually long time with our passports and would look at the passport, look at me, back at the passport and then back at me. This went on for some time. Eventually they said 'is ok' and gave us back our passports. Creepy man!
We arrived in Prague at 4.30 and had a 25min cab ride to our hotel. It was raining and miserable so my first impressions of Prague, which due to the conditions were not wonderful, were unreliable. Our hotel is in a good spot and rather nice.
