hello all!
i know i mentioned that i wanted to cover the rest of my time in london in detail, but i am fast running out of time to do so. i will get to it but if something is worth doing it is worth doing properly and it will take me considerable tıme to articulate the mind blowing week i spent in Datchet with the Andrew's family.
Simon generously offered to take me to the airport last Friday morning for my 9.55 flight to Istanbul. After waiting on the tarmac for over 1 hr we fınally left. the flight was under 3 hrs so no drama at all. With the time difference I landed ın istanbul at about 4.45. i was met by a rep from imaginative traveler (the tour company ı chose for Turkey) and was taken to my hotel... The Ottoman. it was a 45 min drive there so i was able to get a good impression of the city as we drove along the seaside.
Unfortunately, like the fırst hotel ı stayed at wıth the start of my Egypt tour, the hotel ın istanbul was a lıttle yucky. i became a lıttle depressed when i walked ınto my room - having come from Engalnd where everyone spoke english (obv) and where I stayed with a welcoming family and had constant company and entertainment (particularly from 3yr old Tom), I had arrived in a country where I knew nobody (yet) and I could not really go out anywhere because the Turkish men are just as bad, if not worse, than the Egyptian men. I then reminded myself that if Turkey was like Australia then i prob would not have wanted to visit it in the first place. It is Ramadan ın Turkey at present which means things are relatively quiet until after sundown when the Muslim's (over 90% of the population) can break their fast. I did not get too far as the unwanted attention becomes too much rather quickly. I was tired and did not have the patience to put up with it that night. I spent a lonely night in my hotel room listening to a crackling doco on BBC and reading. Like my first night in Egypt, i was a little overwhelmed.
