Back in Sydney but Dreaming of Other Places

I have been back nearly a week and it is still difficult to accept that my holiday is over. Its hard to adjust to life back home and to deal with the reality of things like looking for work, however there are so many great things about life in Sydney and in particular the northern beaches that I will soon be back into a routine resembling normality.
At times the trip feels like a dream and just a flash in time but I have so many great memories and so many photographs that I will never be able to forget what a fantastic time I had.
I'm so glad I decided to travel to Europe and as nice as it is to return home to Sydney, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, there are so many things I already miss.
I really do miss the Borough Market in London and its stalls of fresh food, friendly merchants and the buzz around the chorizo sandwich stall and the mouth watering smells that waft around that place.
I miss fumbling through my dog-eared Spanish phrase book in an attempt to show the local Andalucian's that I am trying to speak their language even if I rarely found the phrase needed. I certainly miss the great atmosphere in the cities of Cordoba, Granada and Seville, three uniquely different cities but each offering so much.
Of course I am already missing some of the greatest food I've ever tasted especially in Cordoba where the tapas is so fresh and delectable and in Granada where in many cases the tapas is free (as long as you keep drinking!).
On a wet day in Sydney I am even missing the 35-degree days of Seville and the protective awnings that offer shade from the heat and the icy cold local beer that always greets you at the bar.
I don't think I'll ever forget some of the beautiful churches of Italy and in particular the Santa Maria Novella in Florence which gave me shelter during a torrential downpour and Santa Maria Gloriosa di Frari in Venice which undoubtedly houses some of the greatest works of art in the world.
I will miss being amused by the smooth operating waiters in the restaurants in Spain and Italy who all do their best to convince us tourists that their food is the best in town.
I will miss watching many of my fellow tourists travelling through Europe but who sometimes struggle with the languages and culture of their hosts. I will miss 'connecting' with them as we catch a glance of each other reading our maps.
I have very fond memories of Cafe Bar Sanchoz in Granada where a great coffee is only 30 seconds away and a toasted sandwich for breakfast is as delicious as the best dinner in town.
Of course there are a few things I won't miss most of which involve dragging luggage around cities and airport terminals and of course I did have to deal with some rude locals who seem uninterested in helping and I managed to experience the occasional bad meal as well as the odd day of nasty weather but as a single memory 'package' I will miss so much but treasure the memories forever.
And finally....
I will miss blogging my adventures at travelblog.org a great way to reflect on my daily discoveries around some of the greatest cities in the World. If you ever decide to travel I believe a blog is not only a great way to keep your friends and family informed of your movements but allows you to capture your thoughts, experiences and memories of your holiday experience and one you can share instantly with anyone you wish.
Until next time........
Chris
