Thailand 2005: Day Three

I snooze all morning, and when lunchtime arrives I still can’t be bothered to get up, so skip lunch and have a very lazy day indeed. Martin and I watch Scooby Doo 2 in the afternoon while we wait for the worst of the heat to abate. I eventually brave the outside world at around 4pm, and we go for a swim in the open-air village pool.
Nick and Tenzin appear while we’re there, and we chat about the best bars to go in Bangkok, and any places he can think of that I didn’t see last year. Nick suggests that we might like to go for a long walk out through the back of the village one day – there’s an enormous amount of scenery to take in on the walk along the riverbank. It sounds great, but there’s no time today.
We cycle back to Martin’s to let the air con repair guys in, and head back out into the village for dinner. It’s a very interesting-looking open-air restaurant with pools of water running through the whole building under wooden floor beams. We have some chilli nachos, some Vietnamese spring rolls, scallops (a first for me), and some spicy beef which is delicious, but too spicy to finish. I hate to leave it, but I’m burning up after managing less than half of it.
We cycle back to Martin’s and watch some Simpsons DVDs, I catch up on emails and blogs, and then it’s time to sleep again. The air con in “my” bedroom has been repaired, so I get a great night’s sleep, and in a bed too! Luxury…
