I'm here and have finally found internet access. You would think I were asking for a three course meal or something. So the airplane ride was nice, except for the lack of vegetarian meals and the soundless Harry Potter which is one of the freakiest things I've seen lately.

I'm here and have finally found internet access. You would think I were asking for a three course meal or something. So the airplane ride was nice, except for the lack of vegetarian meals and the soundless Harry Potter which is one of the freakiest things I've seen lately. I found my way to the right bus really well and started the four hour ride from the airport. Instead of sleeping, though, I talked for the entire time with a man named Alastair Merry. He was Scotch/Irish but has lived in France for the past twenty years. He reminded me of Papa a little in the way he looked but he wore a poofy golf hat which he made himself, he said they were his "trademark". This guy was either a huge liar or the most worldy individual I've ever met. I believe the latter. He told stories the entire bus trip about carpentry, then keeping some German lady's kids in Norway with horses, then living in Avignon, then politics, metaphysics, his kids... the adventures I can't even begin to recall, slipping into French pronunciation every so often. He also was very surprised when I told him I only spoke English (on the right)and couldn't cook very well. He taught me a simple dish to try. He gave me a sandwich with warm mayonaise and cheese and also a boiled egg, which was very sweet and much needed. He helped me find the place I was staying which is a short walk from the bus station. Thank you Alastair.
There I was... I explored my room and kitchen which have amazing views of the city. I took a nap and got ready to go out to a pub because that was the event for the night. By that point, though, I was in such a fragile emotional state that the thought of it made me feel sick, so I went out alone.
Exeter is quite bustling. It has an H&M, one of my favorite cheap clothing stores from New York. There are a lot of shops really. I tried to get internet at a payphone which boasted this amenity, but it wouldn't let me send anything and took my money. I went to the grocery store for the first time and got juice "without bits" and hummous, pita bread, eggs, apples, and bananas.
The sandwich shop is amazing always eggs apples and bananas and orange juice. So, I ate hummous on my windowsill... my window is right across from a cafe, so even though I'm on the sixth floor, I could hear conversations and clinking glasses long into the night.
Today, I came to campus, after trying four wrong buses. It's about a ten minute bus ride. I got my stipend check (Thank God that worked out at least) and then was told that "Oh, that's interesting that you're wanting to take literature and that you're an exchange student because literature classes are on the Exmouth campus and we usually send exchange students to the Plymouth campus.") Yeah, that's really "interesting". So, you can say that I'm just bummed out right now and am asking myself why I came here. Maybe it's good that I came a few days early, though, maybe this lonely feeling will help me grow.
It's difficult to meet people here, partly because no one has arrived yet. I'm kind of scared to go to a pub alone so I don't know what the plans are for tonight. Yikes. I'll put pictures on later.

He went to see his old mother who is living in Topsham all alone.
