After breakfast on Thursday morning, we pack. Most of our afternoon will be spent in the train to Kristiansand. It is a long ride. Most of the time, the scenery outside is just rocks and trees, you really can't see much from the train. We read books and play cards along the way to kill the time.
In Kristiansand, we take a taxi to our new hotel, Sjøgløtt. It is picturesque from the outside and the downstairs looks pleasant, with a small courtyard with plants and two cats. Unfortunately, our room is very small, hot, the bed much too small for two people. We ask if there is another room available, and are given another room for one night, at the back of the house. We sleep reasonably well. The house has seen better days, and could benefit from double glazing and new flooring. Still, the staff is pleasant and the breakfast room is very inviting.
We start our tour of Kristiansand checking out the swimming opportunities. It seems that we may have overestimated the possibilities a bit.
The old town, Posebyen, is very attractive. We find a place to have a cup of coffee next to a hat shop. The coffee is sour as usual, but we sit in a nice garden. We don't walk very far. The train ride in the hot sun has tired us and we go back to our hotel to rest.
Our dinner we have at Sjøhuset. Excellent place. I have lemon sole, Jack takes lotte with saffron sauce, we have a glass of white wine. Nice food, excellent service. None of this do-it-yourself nonsense here. This rates among our better culinary experiences, indeed, in our limited experience we consider this to be the Rick Stein's of Norway .
What to do around here?
Breakfast at Sjøgløtt is good - brown cheese, raspberry jam, herring,...Today we have to move to room 8. Is is very hot in there already.
In the morning we walk around Posebyen and have coffee in
