We fly to Schiphol early in the morning. As we take our places in the plane to Bergen and wait to take off, we see an angry-looking man arriving with the passengers luggage. One of the boxes ...

unusual things on the breakfast table are brown goat cheese (tried it - was nice), marinated herring (idem) and caviar (have some in my fridge now).

We spend the morning in Studia, the student bookshop, but don't buy anything because it was too expensive and we stroll in the park nearby. I buy a CD by Norwegian pop group Aha - some of the things on it are already 20 years old ... scary.

Again, we walk along the harbour and drink coffee in Vågen coffee shop.

In the evening we go to a restaurant dedicated to a colourful customs officer, a local Münchausen character, supposedly a friend of Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany, Cher, Nicolai Romanov, Buster Keaton, ... a fine bullshitter indeed. What the restaurant lacks in atmosphere, it makes up for in the quality of the food. Maybe one of the most pukka places we've been to, in the Jamie Oliver sense of the word.

On our last full day in Bergen, we go up to Mount Ulriken, Bergen's highest mountain, by cable cabin. I am scared, but the reward is waffles and raspberry jam in the little café on top of the mountain. A double-decker bus takes us back into the centre.

We change into our shorts and read a bit in the sunshine in the campus park.

On Saturday we pack our bags. We head for Vågen for a last cup of coffee, stroll along Bryggen for a last photo opportunity, make a faint and fruitless attempt to buy cloudberry jam in a specialities shop and have a mushroom salad at På Volkemunne. Then we take the Flybuss to the airport. Time to go home.

"Safety instructions will only be given in Norwegian"
The flight from Bergen to Amsterdam went fine. For some reason a small number of passengers are once more put in the back - strange that the majority of passengers would fly first class and the economy class is made up of non-Norwegians. Safety instructions are given exclusively in Norwegian, which is even more puzzling. Are they trying to get rid of us? The people in the back receive a paper bag with a bun, orange juice and a chocolate.

The plane arrives ahead of schedule, so it is a long wait in Schiphol for our flight to Brussels.

And yes, there she is again, the KLM polyglot flight attendant. This time she shows off her "English by correspondence".
"Put the oxygen mask over your mouse"...
