Introduction
On this route we see some of the most striking scenery in the surroundings of Ronda. It can be dangerous in parts and if going with children extreme care should be taken.
Description
We leave Ronda from the "Dehesa" district, following the edge of the cliffs of the "Tajo" passing a pine wood on the right. Ignoring a path going down on the left we continue with the cliffs of the Tajo on our left and the pines on our right until we come to a crossing of paths where we take the descending right hand one, leaving behind the others which take us to the "Muela" pass or an old sand quarry. We should have a wire fence on the left hand side. We reach another crossing were we continue ahead ignoring the paths on the left and on the right and follow a path that descends past humble dwellings. We are on the GR 7 E 4 which has recently been signposted by the Andalucian government.
The track goes down past houses and stables reaching the old school of the Indiana. When we reach the road we follow it for 300 meters till we find a wide track near to the bridge spanning the Guadelevin. This takes us past where this river joins that of the Guadalcobacin to form the Guadiaro. Later we pass the Cupil brook the only source of clean water in the zone. We look for the railway which passes by a ruined farmhouse surrounded by elms.
Crossing the railway lines we enter in the Sierra of Grazalema natural park. Two paths are signposted, the old roads from Ronda to Benaojan and Montejaque. Here we find optional departure point 1.
We take the Montejaque path which climbs up between agricultural land, at the top of which we find the abandoned farmhouse "Cortijo Grande". At the crossing here we abandon the Montejaque direction and take the ascending path which is in worse conditions to the one we have just been on.
We enter stony shrubland till we reach "Boquete del Mures" a natural pass between limestone mountains.
