Introduction
This comfortable circular route can be done on mountain bike, foot or horseback. It connects with other pathways which allow us to plan alternative routes.
Description
We start from where the A-367 Ronda-Campillos road leaves the ring road at the roundabout. Soon we see a street (Santa María) on the right which we take leading us between a food store on the left and the D. Felix oil press on the right. We follow an asphalt track parallel to the railway. After 250 metres we find a track of beaten earth. We take this in the opposite direction to the track leading off right towards the hospital. Soon we pass the bar la Codorniz (the quail).
At 1.1 Km. we reach a railway crossing, forgetting the left hand track we take the road and then pass around the left hand side of the military instalation "Virgen de la Paz". When the path levels out we pass the Juncal vineyard on the right where vine growing is being reintroduced into the area after being abandoned last century due to the filoxera plague. Nearby, during the rainy season, there is a small lake. This is optional departure point 1.
The path passes Almonds and Holm Oaks and on the left we can see the remains of the medieval acueduct which carried water from the Hidalga spring to Ronda.
At 1.8 Km.we leave behind a track to the right which has been chained off. The main track ascend lightly with beatiful views. On the right is the Cortina Farmhouse with the Sierra Hidalga rising to 1,504 meters in the background.
We come to a cross-roads after 3.8 Km. Here is the Pilar de Coca. This was where pack horses and mules used to quench their thirst. Now it serves for cyclists and hikers.
The track opposite leads to the Coca farmhouse. Nearby is an old well of unknown date. The left hand track is optional departure point 2 which connect to routes nº3 and 4 in this guide.
We take the right hand track leaving the Pilar de Coca
