Gorge digged by the Ventilla's stream over sand and lime materials.
The vegetation is the typical one to be found at a meadow's forest of a gallery forest, whose trees belong to species associated the Atlantic forest, although living in a Mediterranean environment.The typical vegetation of these river ecosystems located at Ronda's depressions are represented by ash and elm groves, where the ideal forest would consist of elms, ashes, poplars and willows. At the midle and high part of the gorge there can be found the typical vegetal species of the Mediterranean forest: the gall oak and the holm oak.
Other plants that can be found at the stream's meadows are: St. Anthony's grass, reed, rush, as well as some species of orchids. The gorge has got a typical profile with a high zone, where the slope reaches its highest value. At that zone can be find rock's vegetation. After this zone there can be found a second one, divided into two. At the highest area can be seen hom oaks, and at the lowest gall oaks. The last zone consists of a gallery forest, made of black poplars, ashes, poplars and willows. The gorge is remarkable for being one of the last vegetation's hideaways for species that formerly covered Ronda's plateau.
The most important bird's species living all year round at the gorge are: royal owl, tawny owl, little owl, barn owl, kestrel, wagtail, wren, greenfinch,kingfisher, chaffinch, little rook and crow. Under the mammalian animals the following can be found: badger, fox, weasel, genet, hedgehog, little mole as well as an important representation of reptiles, amphibious, spiders, myriapods, mollusks, crayfishes (nearly dissapeared species) and trouts.
