I’ve always said my life is a bit of a contradiction (that’s right I’m a living oxymoron) but no where is that better illustrated than Thailand. It was a fairly impulsive decision to leave Keys in Laos…… in 6 weeks traveling I’d see no beach so with everyone one we talked to heading towards the Full Moon I decided some R&R with some sun, sea and…… sand mixed in would be just right. Besides the Full Moon I was desperate to get back to The Sanctuary, a yoga retreat I visited 5 years ago on my first trip to Thailand and vowed to return to one day. My original plan was to head straight to the Sanctuary, but I arrived later than I thought in Hadd Rin and trying to get a long tail (it can only be reached by boat) in the middle of the night with a backpack seemed foolish.

So there I was spending a night Hadd Rin, Backpackers Party Capital of Thailand and it proved strangely addictive. This was actually going to be my third full moon party and I’d decided on my last trip that hadd rin was not a place I ever wanted to stay again.

Much is said in backpacker circles how it has changed and now five years on since my first visit I vouch that it is changing very fast. On my first trip the first 7-11 had opened but there was still only one bank and no ATM now there are three 7-11s and numerous cash machines and banks. Back then a room with a fan was luxury now it seems a/c is standard and one place even had a pool. Still on the upside it does seem marginally cleaner. Whatever you thing of this place it is good party town and without realizing it I was really in the mood to party!!!! So with the Full Moon three nights away I decided it was worth the sacrifice to stay.

The first few nights where a little mediocre as I just didn’t know anyone but on the night before the full moon I met Toby, who I’d met in Laos, he in turn seemed to know half of Hadd Rin from various SE Asian party locations. ...
