Legnica Art Gallery was established in 1971. At first it functioned as a state institution and was later given to the municipal authorities. It promotes contemporary art in all its aspects. The gallery exhibits paintings, drawings, graphics, sculptures, glass, pottery, fabrics, instalments, artistic jewellery etc. Polish contemporary jewellery exhibitions are also organised in the branch of Art Gallery - Gallery of Silver 'Under the quail's nest', which also offers its products on sale.

Legnica Art Gallery is famous in the country for organising Polish Young Paintings Review 'Promotions' - an event which gives young artist a chance to present their works to the public.

The gallery specialises in contemporary silver jewellery exhibitions. For over 25 years it has been organising exhibitions of Polish and foreign silversmiths - all the exhibitions were all published in professional catalogues. The gallery's fascination with silver can be observed on the basis of numerous cyclic events:

From 1999 on, all the above presented exhibitions accompanied by numerous events take place annually in May. They are called Legnica Silver Festival.
