Around 4000 BC - first traces of human beings.
8th century - traces of Lusatian culture on the suburbs of Stare Piekary
1149 AD - the earliest records of the name Legnica and St. Benedict's Chapel in a document issued by duke Bolesław Kędzierzawy.
Around 1175 AD - Legnica fortress develops to become a significant administrative, military and economical centre.
1202 AD - Legnica becomes the seat of a castellan. Four church buildings are erected within the emerging town. Henryk Brodaty continues works on the castle made of brick.
1241 AD - Tatars' Invasion, duke Henryk II Pobożny ('Pious') is killed in the Battle of Legnica.
1252 AD - Legnica becomes seat of dukes of Piast dynasty.
1264 AD - Legnica obtains municipal rights and it gains on importance.
Late 8-th century - among churches, a castle cathedral and a parish school, two monastic orders of St.Dominic and St.Francis are erected. On the town seal appears the image of St. Peter, the patron of parish church.
1309 AD - Bolesław III officially submits the principality to the Czech king Jan Luxembourg. Czech rule prevails.
14-th century - crafts and commerce flourishes thanks to good location of Legnica
(by the main road connecting Southern Germany with Poland and further east with Russia). New monumental churches are erected: St. Peter's Church and Holly Mary's Church. New fortifications with 30 towers are built as well as water supply and waste water disposal systems. Gold mine in Mikołajowice - first gold coins are emitted.
