even went into a highly restricted UN Detention Center where prisoners are held until the UN processes them. Then we drove up a mountain to get a picture of the entire area. Just after leaving the detention center, a call for help came across the radio about a kidnapping in progress. From our lofty view we watched the activity below as the kidnapping was eradicated. This was not unusual � just another day in Metrovecia.



Be Careful Today - The logistics officer (Ron - another old friend) told me, �be careful today, the locals are releasing prisoners and there will likely be demonstrations (riots).� Ijeti, my Albanian driver took me South toward the Macadonia/Kosovo border. Civil unrest was not bad but evident. Ijeti told me, �my Grandfather was killed by Serbs before I was born and my father was killed in a street fight when I was three years old. There will be no peace here until children stop hating their neighbors for killing their fathers (Serbia, Albania, Croatia, Kosovo, Yugoslavia and Bosnia). Until then, the killing will continue.� I switched drivers as we entered Serb territory (since my driver was Albanian). For the next six hours, I was accompanied by a nurse. She is very brave to live where women are so brutally treated. She showed me a Mosque that was built close to where three Serbian Priests were assassinated. They also blew up a Serb house on the very spot it was built. Now that the Albanians are in control, they are slaughtering Serbs - no one is innocent here. Next, we drove to Glboquica on top of a 10,000 foot mountain on the border of Serbia. As we drove past mountain goats and deep snow, we saw UN officers, border patrols, check-points and tanks. It seemed strange to have to keep the peace in this beautiful virgin territory. We drove by a wreck composed of a tank, a truck and a car. No one survived in the car - it was truly gruesome.
