After sleeping a full eight hours, I was greeted by a breathe-taking sunrise over mountains. The Muslim Prayer was being sung over a loud-speaker at sunrise and was haunting in it's mellotone message in an Arabic tongue.



Adriatic Adventure - On my first day off in over a week, we drove 5 hours to Dubrovnik in Croatia through huge mountains and gorgeous valleys with enormous lakes and rivers that defy description. The farther we drove toward the coast the greener it became. We crossed Bosnia and entered Croatia, then made our way to the coast to the Adriatic Sea. Dubrovnik is a walled city built in the 7th century on the coast to protect this area from would-be attackers coming from the Meditearean Ocean (Greece, Italy, Turkey, Africa, and beyond). We walked along the wall for miles w/wonderful little shops on both sides. We ate lunch outside of an 11th century church. There were huge cruise ships and sailboats completely filling the harbor. There were million dollar homes everywhere where I bought souvenirs for the family. It was so beautiful and peaceful, and nothing like Sarajevo that had so much damage during the recent war. As we drove back, through the mountains, the scenery slowly transformed back into a war zone with buildings blown to pieces and graveyards filled with bodies. We arrived in Sarejevo at nine and were all asleep in an hour. I was honored to meet with the highest United Nations Commander of the International Police Task Force Initiative and take part in a meeting with UN representatives. In the morning left for Germany and I thought of my own two boys and wished they were here.



Danka-Shune from Germany - I left the troubled Balkan States for one of the wealthy and beautiful centers of Europe - Germany. I flew Business Class on Lufthansa to Munich (and was treated like a king with fine German foods and drinks), then to Frankfurt where I was met by a DynCorp manager. ...
