(Wonderful German Food) - We worked during the day then dined and explored at night. Germany is in the middle of Europe and therefore has many cultural foods and products. At night, we ate at Italian, German, Hungarian and Thai restaurants - they were all Vundava!. We also drove over to Ramstien AFB (NATO headquarters) and ate an incredible brunch at the "O" Club with European VIPs. However, my favorite meal in Germany was breakfast composed of strong coffee, sourdough breads, meats, cheeses, yogurt and dried fruits. The night before I left, the local DynCorp managers took me to the Thai Bangkok Restaurant in downtown Mannheim for wonderful Asian cuisine. This was their way of thanking me for coming, but the pleasure was all mine. It was such an honor to work with such dedicated, talented and knowledgeable men and women. But one thing is for sure - I won't eat for a week!
Raw Exhilaration - When I think of Germany - I think Autobahn. One day we drove on the autobahn in a BMW M Model 2.8 Liter Sports car. It can go from 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds. We sped along at 140 MPH at one point and passed other cars like they were standing still and the trees became a blur. For this Texas boy, it was raw exhilaration. However, no matter how fast you go, there is someone going faster. A little spot appeared in our rearview mirror and grew bigger by the second. We pulled into the middle lane at 142 MPH and an Audi passed by at 150 MPH - it was humbling to say the least when we saw it was a family station wagon We also saw Porsche's, BMW's, Mercedes', Vet's, a Viper and even a Lamburgini. I am going to Indianapolis in January, but I won't see anything faster there.
Let There be Light - On the return flight from Germany, we flew over Western Europe, the UK, the Northern Atlantic, Iceland, Greenland, Canada and the Great Lakes and finally landed in Chicago. I love this
