First Vacation in over two years - Due to 911, the War on Terror and my slow transfer from DynCorp to CSC, I have not been able to take vacation in over two years other than the day before or after holidays. So it was overdue. You are right to think I am a work-aholic - but since the divorce and the boys leaving home, I have not really wanted or needed to take time off. Therefore I met a friend in London for a magical week of fun. Our days were typically 10 to 12 hours long of sight-seeing. On Monday we went to the Tower of London and saw the castle and Crown Jewels. Next we took a cruise on the Thames River from central London all the way South to Greenwich. After looking around there, we cruised on the Thames again North all the way to the North London. The sites were awesome!! Next we rode on the Eye of London, the tallest Ferris wheel in the world (175 meters). It was a clear day and we could see all of London and even parts of Southern England. The next day we saw Big Ben, the Parliament Building and one of my favorite places in the world - West Minister Abbey. It is the resting place for Kings, Queens, world famous scientists, artists, poets and dignitaries. We actually touched the coronation chair and were lucky enough to catch a prayer service there. Unbelievably, West Minster Abbey has not missed a daily worship service in over 250 years of its 1,200 year history! On Tuesday we saw St. Paul's Cathedral with all of its glorious windows, halls, steeples, crypts, pipe organs and 12 stories of murals. Next we went to Trafalgar Square, walked through the National Gallery, saw the Common Wealth Embassies and even walked by Tony Blair's Residence. Tony Blair was there so the security was incredible. We topped off Tuesday by dressing up and seeing Les Miserables at THE Queens Theatre in row C and seats 4 and 5!
