was already gone and the fire doors were closed. Of course the elevators were locked, so that left one possible route for me to escape � the stairs. I backed my wheelchair slowly down the stairs one step at a time carefully making sure my wheelchair didn�t get away from me. Upon reaching the bottom, I rolled out of the door into the back parking lot. No one was there so I rolled around to the front. Everyone else was gathered in the center of the parking lot and the general manager was calling out the names of the guests to ensure everyone had made it out of the building. He was down to one name without a response. �Bryant � Rob Bryant � are you here,� he asked repeatedly as I rolled up. �Here,� I retorted and the crowd turned to see why it had taken me so long. The general manager looked my way, realized that I had come down the stairs myself and that no one on his staff had come to my room per the hotel policies. The fire warden was standing there and saw what had transpired as well. The general manager slowly hung his head knowing what was about to happen. The fire alarm stopped and we were allowed to return to our rooms. I glanced over my shoulder as I rolled into the lobby and the fire warden was chewing him out. No words from me were needed � he would not repeat that mistake in the future. I was treated like a king the last few days of my stay for not being a jerk about their obvious oversight. By being kind and patient in return, it was I who benefited. The next time you have a chance to throw a fit � you may actually leave a larger impact by deciding to rise above the situation.
