but it is so cool to encourage others. When I rolled into the first hangar, one of the local nationals rushed over to me and said, "I saw you on the discovery channel last night - you rowed across America, you write books, and your next book is coming out soon." Word spread quickly and soon I was being photographed and signing things. I didn't even know I was on the Discovery channel. God is wonderful to use a sinner like me to be an instrument of His. One night the local management team treated me to lobster, Alaskan King Crabs, and steak. The highlight of the evening was when a four-year old child at a near-by table was squealing like an F-16. The parents weren't doing anything about it. I yelled, "Hey-Hey-Hey," loudly in the direction of the parents. The entire restaurant turned and looked at me, then in the direction I was looking. The father turned to me and looked like he was about to do something, until he saw how big the men around me were (we are all ex-military, and one of my friends looks like a building). He smiled at us and quieted his child - the guys laughed about it all night. For the duration of my stay, the DynCorp employees pointed at me laughing and said, "Hey-Hey-Hey." In contrast, the next night I ate a quiet meal of Kalbe at the site manager's house (my favorite oriental dish). It consists of beef strips, bean sprouts, spinach, kimshe, onions, egg plant, zukini, carrots, white radish, pickled garlic, hot pepper sauce all wrapped in lettuce leaves (kind of an oriental burrito). In the evening we drove down to the waterfront to see the Bansai Trees, Tiki-huts, cliffs, large surf, white sand and rock walkways. On the night before I left, a small typhoon (same as a hurricane in our hemisphere except they rotate in the opposite direction) blew past Okinawa and it poured all-night and 50-mph winds did some damage. It was exciting to watch. We drove to the Public Market in Naha and I bought presents for the family including Navy and Marine ...
