a full kitchen. Since it was 15 hours later than Texas time, I was awake for over 24 clock hours before sleeping (one of the prices of international travel) and don't even remember lying down. I audited and trained 12 hours per day then saw the city at night. We ate oriental foods at the Chiefs Club overlooking the base Golf Course. One thing that caught my attention was how green everything was, the size of the trees and the moss on the ground due to high humidity and high water table. The moss was a beautiful blue and green combination. The temperature was 70 during the day and 50 at night so it was very comfortable. I also drove toward Mt. Fuji to an army base where I audited one of our helicopter maintenance sites and bought presents for the family there (the boys love "war stuff"). On the third morning I woke at 5 AM, packed my stuff, said "sianara" to my wonderful military quarters, drove back to Tokyo, and was flying to Okinawa by 11 AM. We flew right beside Mt. Fuji (http://volcano.und.nodak.edu/vwdocs/volc_images/img_fuji.html) that dwarfed everything else, was snow covered and had its top thousands of feet above the cloud cover, it was one of the most awesome sights I have seen this year. After a 2-1/2 hour flight south on Nippon Airlines, I arrived in Okinawa.
Kon Ni Chi Wa (hello) Okinawa - I arrived in Okinawa at 11 AM - home of Bonsai Trees and Pokiemon cards. The site manager picked me up and took me to the busiest base in the Far East. Air Force and Navy aircraft of every kind take-off and land 24 hours/day (http://www.tje.net/para/ce/1957/1957i20a.htm). There are still many pictures of World War II on display in Okinawa as it took months and thousands of lives to clear just Okinawa of the Japanese. I was given a book with graphic pictures of the damage. Each day, we ate Yaki-Sobe at lunch (Japanese noodles, pork ribs, fish and egg served in a vegetable broth).
