The Okavengo Delta in Botswana is a unique place. It is the only place on earth where a river does not flow into the sea; it flows into the Kalahari Desert, forms a huge delta/swamp that supports incredible wildlife, and then the water disappears into the desert sands. The Okavengo is mostly swamp and is filled with African wildlife. We bush camped for three dirty, gorgeous days, went on hikes to find lions and red hartebeest, and were poled around in mokoros by people who live in the delta. Poling a mokoro is much more difficult than it looks. The men and women made it look easy, but excellent balance and strength are required. Since we were so low in the water, I was psyched that we did not see any hippos or crocodiles. We did have a refreshing, cleansing swim in one part of the delta where the locals swore there were no crocs. It was cold, but extremely refreshing. The Delta is beautiful and peaceful. The sunsets were outstanding.
