Oh My GOD!
I'm in Hong Kong!
Holy Shite!
This is the maddest thing ever! I'm sat in the beautiful sun, staring up at the most humongous sky scrapers you could ever imagine!
It's a really, really lovely place. The people are so friendly and it's so unbelievably British, I feel oddly at home! Have bought an Octopus, which should come in handy getting around the city.
The plane journey over here was really painful, but I was sat next to Robin and his wife Ann, who are Hong Kong ex-pats, so I've got all the insider info on where to go and what to see, which is always a good thing since I'm completely lost and havn't got a clue where I'm sleeping tonight. Need to find a hostel....
13:00
Jesus, what a treck. I've been walking around since 9:30 and only taken my backpack off once; I swear this thing is getting heavier and heavier. My back and shoulders are killing me, but I managed to buy a nice little Canon camera, so at least the moment wont be lost.
Thinking there was a hostel at the top of a local moutain, I boarded the Peek tram using my trusty Octopus (travel card) and set
off on a roller-coaster ride up and up, at a ridiculous angle. Sadly my map reading isn't really upto much and it turned out that I was on completely the wrong mountain on the wrong side of town. Bugger. I think my internal compass isn't coping very well with being in the southern hemisphere - on the similar point, Dad, you were right, (amazingly), the water does travel the wrong way down the plug hole!.
Anyway, I managed to get in touch with Ray, my Hong Kong contact, (sadly not as James Bond as it sounds), and we're gonna meet up later. For now it's onward to track down the hostel and get a much needed shower - I'm sweating like a paedophile in a primary school - and a kip since I've been awake for a ridiculous number of hours. So ridiulous that it's beyond me to work out, what with all the international time line bollocks.
Hey Ho.
Or should I say 'Ley Ho' (Hello) - see, I am learning!
