Having arrived at our beautiful hotel here in Jaipur, we marveled at the sights the surrounding terrain has to offer. We have the best view of the lake, as well as the hotel itself. But I shall let Trystan wax poetic about our splendid accommodations here.
We are staying at the most beautiful and romantic hotel in Jaipur. Like the city itself, the Hotel Trident is painted pink. Inside, it is lavishly decorated in Indian style with green marble floors throughout, dark carved wood furniture and fixtures, and every doorway and window has the classical Indian fluted archway.
Our room has a tiny balcony with the most amazing view of the lake and mountains and an ancient floating palace. No wonder Jaipur is popular with Indian couples for their honeymoons -- it's perfectly picturesque and charming!
Jaipur, while a favorite tourist spot for foreigners as well as locals, it is still as dirty, smelly, and dusty (and crowded -- based on its mere six square miles) as Delhi. Thank the travel gods we are situated outside the city walls in our hotel with a stunning view of the lake palace. It is a creature comfort we often take in... especially when our weariness grows.
Amber, Mirrors, and Elephants
On our first morning in Jaipur, we visited the Amber Fort, complete with a very interesting elephant ride up the hill. The fort is vast and, like many structures, stunning in beauty and detail. The fort offers incredible views of the surrounding mountains and the outline of the old Jaipur city walls.
Lovely mirrored rooms are replete with jeweled and marbled inlays -- all surrounded by a complex series of courtyards, rooms, wives' apartments, hallways, secret passages, etc. The maharajas needed this kind of building to live in. It suited their lifestyle well. The maharaja could choose nightly
