Having arrived at our beautiful hotel here in Jaipur, we marveled at the sights the surrounding terrain has to offer. We have the best view of the lake, as well as the hotel itself. But I shall let Trystan wax poetic about our splendid accommodations here.

The Modern Marble Cenotaph
We visited the Cenotaph later in the day. We didn't spend much time there, but it was gorgeous to look at. Surrounded by more fort-topped mountain sides, the Cenotaph was built for one of Jaipur's maharajah's that died earlier this century, hence it's a much newer structure.
It was funny -- while there, four Indian men stopped me to comment on my earrings (recently purchased in Delhi) which were in the style of a Rajasthani maharaja and told me I looked as much like one. :-)
Arts and Crafts Time
Later in the day, we stopped at a block-printing and carpet-making market. Artisans dip giant carved blocks in brightly colored inks and stamp fabric with the designs. These Indian textiles are highly prized around the world.
After a short demonstration of carpet making (quite an intricate and interesting process!), we indulged ourselves yet again and purchased a gorgeous quilted tapestry bedspread which we will use as a canopy for our bed. We also picked up a metal-woven wall hanging for the bedroom.
Carnival Evening
After a decent rest in the afternoon, a local colleague of Subashini's father's friend (huh? ;-) treated us to a very traditional Rajasthani dinner and what seemed like a small carnival. A thali-style dinner was served to us while we sat on the floor, sans footwear, sitting cross-legged. Many different dishes were served, all delicious and rather spicy too.
