Sometimes, you just want to relax on a trip. For us, most travel is about seeing new places, exploring different cultures, and packing as much into a short time as possible. But even we need a break. The classic tropical vacation fits the bill.

Tours and the Spa
Our first time in Negril, we did the Concierge shopping tour, which hit three different spots. First was the Times Square Shopping Mall, where duty-free met tacky tourist trinkets. The next stop was more touristy stuff, although there was also a supermarket where we got a stash of junk food for our room (yes, there's always room service, but sometimes we just wanted chips or cookies).
Lastly -- and most interesting -- was the craft market. It was a warren of steamy, smokey little stalls filled with both touristy T-shirts and lovely handcrafted wood knickknacks. Bargaining was highly encouraged. Our second time in Negril, we skipped the official tour and called a taxi to take us down to the craft market for shopping.
One afternoon on our first trip, we did the booze cruise on the Jolly Mermaid. The boat had windows in its hull, so you can see the wonderful Negril reef with out even going in the water. Of course, we did go in the water, and it was one of my favorite snorkeling experiences ever.
We saw lots of fish, even a ray, and tons of wonderful coral including fans and brains. The coolest bit was when a school of fish enveloped us, assimilating me into their fish Borg. They were so close, it was like they thought I was just another fish too. I could touch them and call them to me. Now I know what it's like to swim with the fishes!
Sandals also offered free snorkeling trips most every day. You must sign up at least one day in advance at the dive/snorkel station. Boats left almost hourly, and there was no fee for the trip or equipment. These small boats didn't go out as far to the big reef, but they gave a good chunk of time in the smaller reefs off little island in the bay.
